Perhaps the thing that this game will be most remembered for is the kick off time ironically as new for this season games are starting at 23:00 local time on a Saturday evening meaning that games actually carry on well into the following day. The discussion in both the studio and commentary box focused around this in the early stages of the broadcast and by the time the game had finished you could see that not everyone was enamored with the new timing, as with most things in the sport today money talks on this matter it seems.

The new season of Spanish football on Sky Sports was kicked off with the familiar faces of Scott Minto, Guillem Balague and Gerry Armstrong who spent the first half hour of the broadcast focusing on the Euro 2012 victory for Spain after time was rightly spent remembering Manuel Preciado, the former Sporting Gijon manager, and the former Real Betis defender Miki Roque who both sadly passed away in the summer. It was especially tough for Gerry who was a former teammate of Manuel at Real Mallorca in the 1980′s.

La Liga Season 2012/13 Preview

La Liga is back on our screens from this weekend and the season ahead will be an interesting one with Barcelona having a new manager, Lionel Messi ready to set new records, Cristiano Ronaldo aiming to match him once again, Jose Mourinho continuing in charge of Real Madrid after signing a new contract, old favourites returning to the league in Celta Vigo and Deportivo La Coruna and Messi and Ronaldo ….. oh I’ve already mentioned them haven’t I, still they are the main acts. Let’s have a look at what is in store this year.
